Reiko Yoshida, Mia Ikumi Launch Tokyo Mew Mew 2020 Re-Turn Short Manga in December
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The January 2020 issue of Kodansha's Nakayoshi magazine revealed on Saturday that Reiko Yoshida and Mia Ikumi — the original creators of the Tokyo Mew Mew manga — will launch a new short manga in the franchise titled Tokyo Mew Mew 2020 Re-Turn. The manga will launch in the February 2020 issue of the magazine on December 28. The preview text for the manga indicates the manga will have a total of two chapters. Kodansha is credited with the original draft for the manga.
The magazine's January issue also launched a separate Tokyo Mew Mew-related manga on Saturday. That manga by Madoka Seizuki is titled Tokyo Mew Mew Ōre. The manga focuses on male characters.
Both new manga are commemorating the 65th anniversary of the Nakayoshi magazine.
Yoshida and Ikumi serialized their Tokyo Mew Mew manga from 2000 to 2003, and Tokyopop published all seven volumes in English. Kodansha Comics released the manga in three omnibus volumes with a new translation in 2011. The manga inspired a 52-episode television anime series from 2002 to 2003, and 4Kids Entertainment aired the anime with the title Mew Mew Power in 2005. Ikumi also serialized a sequel manga titled Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode from 2003 to 2004, and Kodansha Comics published the manga in English.
Update: Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode's credit corrected. Thanks, Mew Berry
