Lupin III Gets New Mine Fujiko no Uso Anime Film in May
posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
The official blog for the Lupin III anime announced on Friday that the franchise will have a new theatrical anime film titled Lupin the IIIrd: Mine Fujiko no Uso (Lupin the IIIrd: Fujiko Mine's Lie) that will open in Japan on May 31. The story is about an imminent crisis that drives Fujiko into a corner. The film is described as the third film in a series consisting of 2014's Lupin the Third: Jigen's Gravestone and 2017's Lupin the IIIrd Chikemuri no Ishikawa Goemon.
The current main cast members of the franchise reprise their roles for the film, including Miyuki Sawashiro as the titular Fujiko Mine, Kanichi Kurita as Lupin, and Kiyoshi Kobayashi as Daisuke Jigen.
Takeshi Koike, who directed the previous two films and designed the Lupin III: The Woman Called Fujiko Mine series, is directing the new film at Telecom Animation Film. Yūya Takahashi also returns from the previous two films and the Lupin III: Part IV as the scriptwriter. James Shimoji is again the composer. Katsuhito Ishii is the creative advisor. TMS Entertainment is credited for production, and will also distribute the film alongside T-Joy.
Lupin III: Goodbye Partner, the 26th Lupin III anime special, recently premiered on Kinyō Road Show! on January 25. NTV's Kinyō Road Show! previously revealed in January that the franchise will have a new film in winter 2019.
The Lupin the Third: Part 5 anime series premiered in NTV's AnichU programming block last April, and aired 24 episodes through September. Crunchyroll streamed the series in Japanese with English subtitles as it aired in Japan. The new series moved the story's setting to modern France, with new high-tech gadgets and the use of social media and the Internet as new themes for the franchise.
