Pokémon Sword/Shield Games Revealed for Switch in Late 2019
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Nintendo's Pokémom Direct presentation announced the Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield Nintendo Switch games on Wednesday. The new "core series" role-playing games are slated to launch in late 2019.
The Pokémon franchise's official YouTube channel also began streaming the game's promotional video from the presentation separately.
The video features gameplay footage and reveals the game's new Galar region and starter Pokémon Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Nintendo first announced last May that a "core series" game for the franchise would launch on Switch in 2019.
The Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! games shipped for Nintendo Switch on November 16. The games are set in the Kanto region of the first Pokémon games, and are specifically based on 1998's Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition.
Wednesday marks the 23rd anniversary of the Pokémon franchise with the launch of the Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green games on February 27, 1996.
Update: Separate trailer video added.
