Sugar Sugar Rune's Moyocco Anno to Attend Toronto Comics Arts Festival
posted on by Karen Ressler
The Toronto Comics Arts Festival announced that manga artist and fashion designer Moyoco Anno will be a guest at its May 10-11 event in Toronto, Canada. She will be promoting her first essay manga, Insufficient Direction.
Vertical licensed Insufficient Direction for North America last July. The comedic and heartwarming autobiographical story followed her everyday married "otaku lifestyle" with Hideaki Anno (Evangelion), "the founder of the otaku cult." The book version of the manga includes a glossary of 20,000 otaku words (created in cooperation with the anime studio Gainax). A website opened in February teasing a new project related to the manga.
Vertical also published Anno's one-volume Sakuran manga. Viz Media previously published Anno's Flowers and Bees manga in North America, Tokyopop published her Happy Mania, and Del Rey published her Sugar Sugar Rune series, the latter of which received an anime adaptation in 2005-2006. The new Manga Reborn website is also working with Anno to publish a few of her manga digitally, including Chameleon Army, The Five Buffalo Girls, Jelly Beans, and Insufficient Direction.
