posted on by Egan Loo
This week's sixth issue of Shogakukan's Big Comic Superior magazine is annoucing on Friday that Azumi manga creator Yū Koyama will launch the boxing series Yūhi. The new series will begin in the magazine's eighth issue on March 26.
The story begins in Showa 19 (AD 1940), when 4-year-old Yūhi is living with his mother Toyo and 13-year-old sister Yuri in Manchuria in Japanese-occupied China. The story then shifts to Japan after its wartime defeat, as Yūhi rebuilds his shattered life along with the rest of his country. He walks the path to becoming a boxer, and then an aspiring actress changes his life.
Koyama is ending Azumi on Friday, and the manga's 18th compiled book volume will ship at the end of April. The first Azumi manga series inspired two live-action movies, both of which were released in North America by Urban Vision, and a stage play.
