Man Robs Akihabara Maid Cafe, Steals 130,000 Yen/US$1,300

posted on by Sarah Nelkin

A man posing as a customer at the Maid Cafe MaiDreamin in Tokyo's Akihabara district threatened the staff with a sharp object and stole 130,000 yen (about US$1,300) from the store on Sunday.

At around 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, a man who had been at the cafe for about one hour suddenly pointed an object that resembled a folding knife at one of the female staff members and said, “Don't move!” to those inside the store. After taking the money from the store's register, the suspect fled the store. According to the Metropolitan Police Department, the suspect appeared to be in his 20s, and was lean and about 170 centimeters (five feet, seven inches) in height. The suspect wore a black suit and sunglasses at the time of the crime. The police are currently searching for the whereabouts of the criminal.
