posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Animax Asia posted a 30-second English-narrated trailer on Monday for the anime adaptation of Tomonori Inoue's Coppelion science-fiction military action manga. Animax Asia is airing the series at the same time it premieres in Japan.
Shingo Suzuki (K, Mardock Scramble films) is directing the series and handling the character designs. Makoto Nakamura (Princess Lover!, Cuticle Detective Inaba) is in charge of series composition and Hiroshi Okubo (K, Mardock Scramble films) is handling mechanical designs. The animation is being produced at studio GoHands (K, Mardock Scramble films) with series directors Susumu Kudo and Hiromitsu Kanazawa. Mikio Endo is scoring the soundtrack, and Hiroshi Okubo is handling the mechanical designs. The series stars Haruka Tomatsu, Kana Hanazawa, and Satomi Akesaka.
The anime will premiere in Japan on October 2 on the AT-X channel.
The story is set in 2036, after radioactive contamination from a nuclear accident has put Tokyo under a blockade. Three high school girls have been sent to this dead city. Thanks to genetic engineering, the three girls have been impervious to radioactivity since birth. They form a special forces unit, codenamed "Coppelion," in the 3rd Division of Japan's Ground Self-Defense Force.
The manga began in Kodansha's Weekly Young Magazine in 2008 and moved to Monthly Young Magazine last year. Weekly Young Magazine announced a Coppelion television anime in 2010, but the plans were put on hold after the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.
Animax Asia also posted an English-narrated trailer for Hyou-ka. The channel will air the series starting on October 7. The series originally aired in Japan last year.
Update: Animax Asia has removed the Hyou-ka video from its YouTube channel.
