Space Battleship Yamato 2199 Gets 5.7% & 5.9% Ratings

The survey firm Video Research reports that the first episode of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 anime remake earned a relatively high 5.7% average rating in Tokyo's Kanto region and a 5.9% in Osaka's Kansai area when it premiered at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The first Yamato television anime in 33 years earned the highest ranking in years for a series premiere in that TBS/MBS timeslot.
A spokesperson for MBS said that the largest demographic of viewers of the show were those between the ages of 35-49, followed by viewers 20-34 and children 4-12. In addition, the number 1 and 2 Hot Words on Twitter in Japan during the show's airing were “Yamato” and the hashtag “#yamato2199.”
The project is also running in theaters; the fifth installment in the film series, which is composed of episodes 15-18, will premiere in 12 theaters in Japan on Saturday, and then will ship on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on May 28.
