Sony: No PS Vita Price Cut Overseas to Match Japan's
posted on by Joanne Mertz
Sony Worldwide Studios president Shūhei Yoshida stated at a roundtable that although Japanese consumers will receive a price cut on the PlayStation Vita, Sony will not match the cut in North America. Yoshida explained one aspect of the decision was a matter of economics, as the value of the yen made the product a higher price in Japan than overseas. When the lower model sold for US$250 in North America was compared with the exchange rate on the price of one sold in Japan for 25,000 yen, the portable was selling in Japan for around US$270.
The price on PlayStation Vita models sold in Japan will drop from 24,980 yen to 19,980 yen (about US$215) starting next Thursday.
