Crunchyroll to Stream Love Live! Idol Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
Media service Crunchyroll announced on Wednesday that it will begin streaming the Love Live! television anime series on January 8 at 11:00 a.m. EST. The anime will be available in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Central and South America.
The "school idol project" is set at a school between Tokyo's Akihabara, Kanda, and Jinbochō neighborhoods. The school faces the danger of being "streamlined" out of existence, so nine of its female students decide to become idols to protect their school and boost attendance.
In 2010, the anime studio Sunrise, Lantis, and ASCII Media Works' Dengeki G Magazine launched Love Live! as a self-described "ultimate user-participation project" which lets its fans vote on the future of the fictional idols. A series of music CDs and animated music videos then followed. The members of the project announced this past February that an full anime series has been green-lit for next year.
The series will premiere in Japan on January 6.
