Stone Bridge Press to Publish New Editions of Gundam Novels in 2012
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Stone Bridge Press, the Berkeley, California-based publisher that specializes in Asian culture and media, posted on its Twitter account on Thursday that it will be printing new editions of Yoshiyuki Tomino's three original Mobile Suit Gundam novels in early 2012. The company previously released an omnibus edition of those novels, translated by Frederik L. Schodt, in 2004. Del Rey had previously published the novels, titled Awakening, Escalation and Confrontation, in 1990.
Amazon lists the new book as coming out on April 10 in a paperback omnibus form and retailing for US$15.95. The book is listed as having an introduction by Mark Simmons, the author of the Gundam Official Guide.
Originally published in Japan in 1979 by Asahi Sonorama, the novel series presents a slightly different view of the original Gundam series and the battle between Amuro Ray and Char Aznable. In the novels, Tomino had the opportunity to explore deeper and more mature content than what was presented in the first Mobile Suit Gundam television series.
In 1987, Kadokawa Shoten published a slightly modified version of the novels, and Schodt's translation was based on the 1987 version.
Stone Bridge Press did not respond to ANN's request for more details on the new edition by press time.
