Kenji Kamiyama Makes Cyborg 009/Pepsi Nex 3D Ad
posted on by Egan Loo
Director Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eden of the East) produced a Pepsi Nex drink ad based on Shōtarō Ishinomori's classic science-fiction manga Cyborg 009, and the ad will begin playing in 41 stereoscopic 3D theaters in Japan on Friday. The ad will play before screenings of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides in theaters of the Warner Mycal Cinemas chain. The creator group SANZIGEN, Dandelion, and the anime studio Production I.G collaborated on the production.
Kamiyama had previously produced a 3D Xi AVANT anime short as a tie-in with the NTT Docomo's next-generation Xi data service. This short played with screenings of Kamiyama Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society in Japan last month, and it is also streaming in 2D online.
Kamiyama just established Steve N' Steven, a new consulting firm for planning and producing animation in advertising and other areas, with the ad firm Hakuhodo on April 1.
Tokyopop published the original manga in North America, and Columbia Tristar and Cartoon Network brought the 2001-2002 television anime version to the United States also. Another director with Ghost in the Shell and Production I.G ties, Mamoru Oshii, directed his own 3D short of Cyborg 009 last year with sponsor Panasonic.
