The British anime distributor Manga Entertainment has announced on Monday that it will release Production I.G's Miyamoto Musashi: Sōken ni Haseru Yume (Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai) and Tomoki Kyoda and BONES' Eureka Seven - good night, sleep tight, young lovers - anime films. Both films will be released on DVD as well as on Blu-ray Disc. A release date has not yet been announced for either titles.
Award-winning anime creator and director Mamoru Oshii (Patlabor, Ghost in the Shell, The Sky Crawlers) developed and wrote Musashi: The Dream of the Last Samurai, which deals with "the fact and fiction about the Niten Ichi-ryū of Musashi Miyamoto, the seeker of the way of the invincible sword." Miyamoto is a legendary swordsmen who pioneered the Hyōhō Niten Ichi-ryū style of two-sword fighting and wrote The Book of Five Rings, a book that has been compared to Sun Tzu's The Art of War for its insight on tactics and strategy. ANN is hosting a trailer with English subtitles.
Eureka Seven - good night, sleep tight, young lovers - is an alternate retelling of the Eureka Seven television anime series. The film is known as Kōkyō Shihen Eureka Seven: Pocket ga Niji de Ippai in Japan, where it opened in theaters in April 2009. Bandai Entertainment holds the license to both the TV series and the film in North America.
