Ponyo Ranks #3 BD, #4 DVD in First Week

During its first week of sales, Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea ranked #3 in Blu-Ray Disc sales and #4 in DVD sales in the United States. The film ranked #3 in overall sales, and also ranked #19 in video rentals for the week. 34% of the total unit sales of Ponyo were Blu-ray.
Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea was released on DVD in Japan on July 3. During its first week, it ranked #1 on Japan's animation DVD rankings, selling more than 500,000 copies. It was also the seventh Miyazaki film to claim the #1 spot in the weekly DVD sales charts in its first week. The Blu-Ray disc ranked #1 during its first week of sales in December, with the Blu-Ray Special Keepsake Edition ranking at #2 during the same week.
Warner Brothers' Japanese-animated Halo Legends anthology, which ranked at #10 for DVD sales during its second week of sales, fell from the charts during its third week. Halo Legends had ranked at #2 in Blu-Ray Disc sales and at #4 in DVD sales during its first week of sales.
