Manga Creator Kazuo Umezu's Documentary Trailer Posted
posted on by Egan Loo
The official website for Gwashi! Kazuo Umezz (Gwashi! Umezu Kazuo Desu), the first documentary about horror manga pioneer Kazuo Umezu, has posted a 103-second trailer for the film on Friday. (The film is named after the trademark "Gwashi!" pose of the title character in Umezu's Makoto-chan manga.)
Kōji Itō, a staffer on Umezu's official website, is making his directorial debut with the film. Itō started filming "the little-known side of Umezu" three years ago, including Umezu's own "Makoto-chan Dance" and the interior of his "Makoto-chan House." The trailer features Umezu himself at work and at play, book designer Shin Sobue, manga creator and editor Kentaro Takekuma (Even A Monkey Can Draw Manga), and Monthly Ikki magazine editor-in-chief Hideki Egami. The film opens in Japan on November 23.
Viz Media published Umezu's Drifting Classroom, Cat Eyed Boy, and Orochi: Blood — as well as Even A Monkey Can Draw Manga and selected Ikki manga — in North America. IDW Publishing printed Reptilia, and Dark Horse Comics handled his Scary Books series.
