Canada's YTV to Add Remainder of 1st Pretty Cure Anime
posted on by Egan Loo
The Canadian TV network YTV has picked up the remaining 23 episodes of the first Pretty Cure anime series, after premiering the first 26 episodes on March 6.
The story centers on two schoolgirls with dissimilar interests who are bought together by two magical creatures from the Garden of Light. The creatures transform the girls into Cure Black and Cure White — the two halves of the Pretty Cure magical girl team.
The American production company 4Kids Entertainment had licensed the first Pretty Cure series in 2006, but it did not release its version in the United States. Toei has since relicensed the series for digital distribution on IGN's Direct2Drive service and later on the Crunchyroll video-sharing website last year.
The original Futari wa Pretty Cure television series aired in Japan in 2004-2005, and the sixth Pretty Cure television series, Fresh Pretty Cure, premiered this past February. The seventh film, Fresh Precure! Omocha no Kuni wa Himitsu ga Ippai!?, will open in Japan on October 31. The sixth film, Precure All Stars DX: Minna Tomodachi—Kiseki no Zenin Daishūgō, brought the cast members of the first five television series together. It debuted at #5 at the Japanese box office on March 22 and has earned at least US$9 million.
