The TNS Media Korea audience survey firm reports that the Korean live-action television drama version of Yōko Kamio's Hana Yori Dango (Boys Over Flowers) manga scored a record 14.3% national rating on January 5. Like Kamio's original manga, the drama version recounts the life of a middle-class girl surrounded by the rich students of an exclusive high school. Kamio personally came to South Korea to meet the cast during a December 22 press conference. Yonhap News posted the sketch that Kamio drew of the cast.
The manga had already been adapted into Japanese anime, a 1995 Japanese live-action film, and a more well-known 2005 Japanese television drama which spawned a sequel and a hit film. Taiwan also remade the manga for a live-action university drama titled Meteor Garden. Viz Media released the manga and anime versions in North America.
