Yomigaeru Sora TV Anime Series Gets Live-Action Film
posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese production company Bandai Visual is adapting the 2006 television anime series Yomigaeru Sora - RESCUE WINGS - and Rescue Wings manga as a live-action film. Masaaki Tezuka, the director best known for the Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla and Sengoku Jieitai 1549 films, will oversee the project. The original anime's story centers on a fighter pilot trainee named Kazuhiro Uchida who gets reassigned to a helicopter search-and-rescue unit, much to his (initial) dismay. By contrast, the live-action film will revolve around a female pilot named Haruka Kawashima; the model and actress Yūko Takayama (Cosplay Yūrei Guren Onna) will play the lead role.
Tomokazu Miura (Always San-chōme no Yūhi), Yoshino Kimura (Shota no Sushi), Shuya Isaka, and Dai Watanabe will also star in the film. The Japanese Ministry of Defense, Air Self-Defence Force, and Maritime Self-Defense Force are participating in the project, so real UH-60J helicopters, F-15 fighters, and escort vessels will appear in the film. Filming began on July 7, and the movie will open in Japan in December 2009.
