Hayao Miyazaki, Mamoru Oshii fail to take any of festival's major awards
Neither Hayao Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea nor Mamoru Oshii's The Sky Crawlers were selected for any juried award at the 65th Venice Film Festival this week. Out of the 21 films in competition, Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler won the Golden Lion award for best film on Saturday. However, Ponyo did pick up a "collateral" award (an award sponsored by an outside organization) from the Mimmo Rotella Foundation. Mimmo Rotella's award honored a film "which shows a firm connection with the arts," while Sky Crawlers was honored with the Future Film Festival Digital Award.
