New 2-Minute Live-Action Speed Racer Trailer Posted (Updated)
posted on by Egan Loo
The official website of the live-action Speed Racer movie has posted a new two-minute, 10-second international trailer in streaming and downloadable formats. The Wachowski Brothers' film adapts the 1960s Speed Racer television series, which in turn adapted Tatsuo Yoshida's Mach Go Go Go car-racing anime. The film opens on May 9 with earlier premieres in Los Angeles (April 26) and New York's Tribeca Film Festival (May 3).
To mark the 40th anniversary of the original Speed Racer television series, Digital Manga Publishing has released a deluxe hardcover version of Yoshida's manga version. Peter Fernandez, the English-language voice of the title character, will appear at this week's New York Comic Con to autograph copies of this release.
America's Nicktoons Network has announced that it will premiere a new American-produced television series of Speed Racer with a 90-minute showing on May 2. The Animation Collective studio (Kappa Mikey) oversaw the production of the series. The series will center on teenager named Speed who happens to be the son of the original Speed Racer. This will be the fourth revival of the original anime made in Japan or America (not counting the live-action movie).
