Tekkonkinkreet Wins Top Prize at Belgium's Anima Fest

Tekkonkinkreet, Michael Arias' animated film adaptation of Taiyo Matsumoto's manga, has won the Grand Prix award at the Anima 2008 festival in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday. The festival's official selection for the best feature film competition included Juan Pablo Buscarini's El Arca, Magnus Carlsson's Desmond and the Marsh Monster, Kenji Kamiyama's Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex: Solid State Society, Kompin Kemgumnird's Khan Kluay, Sandor Jesse's Little King Macius, Mamoru Hosoda's The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, and Victor Maldonado and Adrian Garcia's Nocturna.
From 800 submissions, the festival selected 200 shorts and 13 new features to screen during February 1-9. Over 100 films were screened as part of the International competition in the various feature-length and short animation categories. Satoshi Kon's Paprika won the full-length movie prize in 2007 in a field that included Seiji Mizushima's Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie - Conqueror of Shamballa. Kon won another award at the festival for Tokyo Godfathers in 2005.
