Update: Kaz Yamashita of Toei Animation Los Angeles has informed ANN that The Rose of Versailles animated film remake's release has not been set for a particular date, despite this report.
The Brazilian anime website Papo de Budega reports on Toei Animation Managing Director Kaz Yamashita's confirmation that the The Rose of Versailles animated film remake has been delayed from this year until 2009. Pilot footage for the film adaptation of Riyoko Ikeda's classic shōjo manga was screened at the Tokyo International Anime Fair in January of 2007, but Toei had not made any further announcements on the film until now. The manga has been previously adapted into a 1974 theatrical musical that has been seen over 4 million times in the past three decades, a 1978 live-action film with an international cast, a 1970-1980 anime television series, and a 1990 anime film.
Kobayashi and Toei Animation President and COO Yosuke Kobayashi came to Brazil to deal with the distribution of Toei's works in Latin America. Yamashita confirmed Toei Animation's interest in bringing more anime onto free, over-the-air television broadcasts in Latin America, as opposed to cable television. The company is negotiating to broadcast One Piece over-the-air in Brazil.
