Hokkaido TV's On-chan Mascot Gets TV Anime in January

HTB, a television broadcaster on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, has announced that a new children's anime television series called Yume-Miru Anime on-chan (Dreaming Anime on-chan) will premiere on January 18. The animated shorts will air between 7:54 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. every Friday. The on-chan has been HTB's mascot character since it officially debuted on December 1, 1997, and has appeared in parades and various promotions for the station.
Voice actress Rie Tanaka (Chobits' Chii, Mobile Suit Gundam Seed's Lacus), who was born in the Hokkaido's capital city of Sapporo, will play on-chan. Hiromi Konno (Air's Potato, Lucky Star's Akira) will play a pink incarnation of on-chan, ok-chan, while Keiji Hirai (The Gokusen's Tetsu will play the black version of on-chan, no-chan.
The on-chan character had previously starred in animated commercials for HTB and a 2003 feature-length anime called on-chan Yume Power Dai-Boken (on-chan's Great Dream-Powered Adventure). In the latter work, singer and actress Tomoe Shinohara played the main lead.
