USA Today Booklist, October 1–7: 3 Naruto Books Enter
posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
In their first week on store shelves, the three new volumes of Naruto (19 through 21) all placed on USA Today's list of the nation's top 150 best-selling books for October 1–7. Viz Media is publishing them simultaneously in an attempt to catch up to the Japanese release. As with the late August release of Naruto Volumes 16, 17, and 18, the last volume of the new three volumes sold better than the other two, entering the list at #69. Volumes 20 and 19 were not too far behind, as they held the #77 and #82 spots, respectively.
All three volumes debuted significantly higher than their predecessors. Although all three of the earlier volumes also made it on USA Today's list in their first week of release, they entered at the #131, #123, and #116 spots. From that week on, and throughout their appearance on the list, Volume 18 ranked the highest of the three, and volume 16 the lowest.
In addition to Naruto, Viz's Bleach Volume 21, released last week as well, also achieved best-seller status. It holds the #109 position, and is the only other manga on the list.
