1st Anime Major in Japanese Public University Planned
posted on by Egan Loo
The Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music filed an application with Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to establish an animation major. If accepted, the program will start next April in its Visual Arts graduate school in Yokohama, a city south of Tokyo. Gainax co-founder Toshio Okada famously taught "Otakuology" at Tokyo University (another national public university), and Kyoto Seika University, a private university, offers an animation major within its Faculty of Manga. However, if TNUFAM's application is accepted, its program would be the first undergraduate or graduate major program for animation in a national public university in Japan. Update: It would also be the first graduate animation program in any Japanese university. Source: animeanime.jp
