Marvel's Halo only non-manga in Bookscan Top 10 Graphic Novels
Tokyopop's Fruits Basket volume 14, which reached #29 in USA Today's's list of top-selling books for the week ending August 6th has also topped Bookscan's list of the top selling graphic novels for said week.
The only non-manga in Bookscan's top 10 was Marvel's Halo graphic novel, based on the popular console game, ranked in position #2. ICv2 points out that this is the highest any non-movie tie in, non-manga, non-comic reprint has reached in "recent years."
According to Nielson Bookscan, the top 10 selling graphic novels for the week ending August 6 were:
Fruits Basket
Halo (Marvel)
Bleach
Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE
Naruto
Absolute Boyfriend
Naruto
Buso Renkin
Kingdom Hearts
Naruto
The Nielson Bookscan ranks are based on point of sales data gathered at numerous outlets in the booktrade. The ranks are based on how many copies of a particular item were purchased by readers during a given week, not the number of copies sold to the bookstores. Not all retailers participate in the polling, in particular comic book and specialty shops, as well as independant outlets and some major online retailers are not represented.
