Bandai Co. to Invest in Anime

posted on by Christopher Macdonald
With more and more anime being created with the American market in mind, it might come as a relief to some fans to see the world's third largest toy maker investing in anime shows for another purpose...

Improving toy sales.

Bandai Co. is planning to invest money into anime productions in order to increase sales of toys and character goods based on the resultant anime properties.

While several Bandai subsidiaries, including Bandai Visual, Sunrise and Bandai Entertainment are regularly involved with the production of anime, the parent company itself is rarely directly involved with anime*.

As early as this September, two new anime based on established manga series will air on Japanese TV. Bandai, which is the worlds third largest producer of toys, expects merchandise based on the series to bring in 2-3 billion yen in sales per series.

In addition to toys and character goods, Bandai Co. plans to also expand their operation to clothing and DVDs.

*Editor's Note: Our research shows no anime directly invested in by Bandai Co. , however we were not able to confirm this by press time.
