Image of Nude Woman Considered Subliminal by Many
The opening sequence of the new Area 88 TV series featured an image of a inked woman that many considered to be subliminal in nature. The scene in question is a very brief image of a naked woman collapsing.
Area 88 was first broadcast last Thursday (February 19th) on TV Asahi. According to the broadcast standard of the Japanese private broadcast union, the insertion of images that can not be perceived with the naked eye is not acceptable in broadcast media. Although the image remained on the screen for less than a second, Asahi claims that it was not subliminal in nature because it could be perceived by the naked eye. However, they have removed the image from the opening of subsequent episodes in order to avoid misunderstanding.
