My Hero Academia Sweeps Crunchyroll's Anime Awards

Biggest prize goes DEVILMAN crybaby with Anime of the Year

Megalobox and DEVILMAN crybaby may have had the most nominations but it was My Hero Academia that went home with the prizes. Bones' superhero action series won the most categories with a total of five wins.

The series protagonist Deku won Best Boy and antagonist All for One took Best Villain. Voice actor Christopher Sabat was recognized for his work as All Might with the Best Voice Actor (English) Award. All Might's eye-popping battle against All for One beat out the competition for Best Fight Scene. Finally, the series' first film My Hero Academia: Two Heroes pulled ahead of favorites like Liz and the Blue Bird and Oscar contender Mirai.

Megalobox was completely shut out of the awards despite garnering eight nominations. Masaaki Yuasa's DEVILMAN crybaby lost in the character categories only to shine bright at the end. Yuasa was awarded the Best Director prize and the series took the biggest prize of the night, Anime of the Year.

The song categories went to DARLING in the FRANXX's "KISS OF DEATH" by Mika Nakashima and HYDE and Attack on Titan's "Akatsuki no Requiem" by Linked Horizon. Rascal Does not Dream of Bunny Girl Sempai heroine Mai Sakurajima won Best Girl and the irreplaceable Mamoru Miyano won Best Voice Actor (Japanese) for his work on Zombie Land Saga. That Time I Was Reincarnated as a Slime's Rimaru won Best Protagonist and Kyoto Animation's Violet Evergarden won Best Animation. The Character Design Award went to JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Dragon Ball Super was named Best Continuing Series.

The Anime Awards 2018 winners were announced on February 16 and fans could livestream the award ceremony the same day.

The Anime Awards 2017 ceremony took over the Montalban Theatre in Hollywood on February 24. Made in Abyss won Anime of the Year and Makoto Shinkai's your name. took home the Best Anime Film prize. This year's awards do away with several categories including Best Manga, Best CGI, and the genre-specific categories like Best Drama and Best Comedy. Best Villain is reworked as Best Antagonist while several staff-focused categories are added for voice actors, character design, and director while Best Score was cut.
