Ga-Rei: Zero 10th Anniversary Event Includes Live Concert, Talk Show
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The 2008 Ga-Rei: Zero anime got a short revival on television in 2017, a character swimsuit contest, and plans for a 10th anniversary celebration. The announcements culminated in a 10th anniversary event set for February 24.
The staff of the anime series will host a talk event at the Shinjuku BLAZE event venue in the Kabukucho district. Guests will get to watch the anime's final episode with the staff followed by a DJ-led concert inspired by the anime's theme songs. The event includes scheduled appearances by voice actors Minoru Shiraishi (Kazuki Sakuraba) and Minori Chihara (Kagura Tsuchimiya), singers yozuca* and Faylan, director Ei Aoki, scriptwriter Katsuhiko Takayama, TROYCA president Toshiyuki Nagano, and producer Atsushi Itou.
The Ga-Rei: Zero anime serves as a prequel to Hajime Segawa's Ga-Rei manga series. Funimation licensed and released the anime on home video and describes the story:
Kagura and Yomi may look like ordinary school girls as they walk the streets of Tokyo clad in short skirts and knee-high socks, but they're the heroes you scream for when monsters creep out of the darkness. These sword-totting sisters are part of an elite counterattack unit that specializes in suppressing outbreaks of supernatural activity. They train together, live together, eat together, and spend their nights disemboweling demons with sacred blades. Tragedy strikes when Yomi is possessed by a dark spirit, and Kagura must choose between raising her weapon against the eerily familiar face of ultimate evil - or watching her mentor slaughter innocent citizens. In a life or death battle that pits sister against sister, survival may be the greatest agony of all.
