Voice Actors Yūichi Nakamura, Tomokazu Sugita Star in Nutritional Snack Ad

Voice actors Yūichi Nakamura and Tomokazu Sugita have become two of the latest Japanese celebrities to star as personified CalorieMate nutritional energy snacks in their own commercial. The pair appear as energy blocks apparently trying to convince a young woman to eat them in a television commercial that began streaming on Friday.

The video begins with Nakamura as a CalorieMate block saying, "There were eyes in an unexpected place. It's CalorieMate. You come to want to eat only cool foods in summer." Sugita then appears as a second CalorieMate block and says, "But nutritional balance is also important." Nakamura responds, "Thanks for the precise follow-up." Then Sugita replies, "I'm happy to be helpful!" Together they say, "And so we began as chilled CalorieMates!" Unfortunately, the hungry woman chooses a jelly CalorieMate instead of the block duo. The ad ends with the apparently living nutrition blocks still stuck inside the refrigerator and staying close to each other for warmth.

Nakamura's anime roles include Macross Frontier's Alto Saotome, The irregular at magic high school's Tatsuya Shiba, Mobile Suit Gundam Thunderbolt's Io Fleming, and Berserk's Silat. Sugita has voiced characters such as Terraformars' Ichirō Hiruma, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya's Kyon, Gintama's Gintoki Sakata, and K's Reisi Munakata.

CalorieMate partnered with Flash animator Frogman for a series of parody anime shorts in 2014.
