Death Note Gets Real Escape Game For 10th Anniversary
posted on by Eric Stimson
The official site for the manga/anime/live-action franchise Death Note is currently carrying a countdown to noon, March 3, with only a vague clue regarding the impending event: "Touch this notebook, and your memories will be revived." Moving your cursor over the Death Note will make Ryuk the death god appear above it.
While fans speculate on the nature of the announcement (which is likely connected with Death Note's 10th anniversary), another Death Note-related event has been unveiled: a "real escape game." Real escape games are crowd participation events mostly held in Japan that involve using clues and intuition to escape a locked room within a designated time limit. Recent years have seen popular anime and manga franchises like Case Closed and Attack on Titan used as set-ups for these events; the premise of this new game involves a second Kira who will "kill" the participants if they don't escape the room within an hour.
The game will be held from May 30 to July 27 at the Harajuku Himitsu Kichi of SCRAP ("Secret Base of SCRAP") and at an unannounced location in Osaka. Tickets go on sale on March 21 and cost from 2,200 yen to 3,300 yen ($22 to $32).
