Gainax's Live-Action Hero Comedy EA's Rock Gets Film
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The anime studio Gainax and director Nobuhiro Yamashita's live-action hero comedy series EA's Rock is spawning a compilation film, which will play in two theaters as part of different festivals on November 3.
The story follows the former members of the "Kankaku Senshi Gokan Five," a super sentai group that successfully protected the Earth's peace and now goes about their daily lives in other occupations due to a lack of hero-related work. 45-year-old Gokan Red (Hiroshi Yamamoto) works as a bartender at Tokyo's SHOOTING BAR EA, a combination airsoft shooting range and bar run by the former Gokan Blue (Jō Hyuuga). Momoka (Kotone Sheena), a 17-year-old high school girl, joins the team part-time as a waitress and Gokan Peach.
The series also starred Yuuya Matsuura as Gokan Green and Tomoya Maeno as Gokan Yellow. Yamashita's previous films include Cream Lemon, Linda Linda Linda, and My Back Page. The original series premiered on various Japanese television stations and niconico in April.
Those who attend the November 3 screenings will receive an original comic book drawn by Hiroyuki Ōhashi (City Lights, ON-GAKU to Manga). Ōhashi worked as a writer and character designer on the television series.
