Gintama no Sugoroku PSP's 2nd Video Confirms Board Game Genre
posted on by Egan Loo
Namco Bandai Games' official website for Gintama no Sugoroku, the first Gintama game in five years, began streaming the second promotional video on Monday. The site and video confirm that, despite the deliberately misleading early logo, the game will be in the "absurd Gintama board game" genre when it ships next year.
The "slapstick sci-fi board game with laughs and tears" recreates the world of Gintama in which players advance on the board and sabotage other players' movements. The game uses the same Live2D computer-animated technique that Namco Bandai Games has used in Haruhi Suzumiya, Oreimo, Haganai, Tokimeki Girl's Side, Madoka Magica, Macross, and Tiger & Bunny software to animate 2D characters' expressions as if they were 3D.
Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed the new game last week. However, the magazine teased the game with a tongue-in-cheek title logo (銀魂無双六) has the same Musou (無双) kanji as KOEI's Dynasty Warriors action game franchise. The actual finalized title is Gintama no Sugoroku (銀魂のすごろく) — sugoroku (双六) is a name for a type of Japanese board games.
Hideaki Sorachi's original manga is also inspiring a second film next year, as well as a new television run with new episodes (combined with selected episode reruns), starting on October 4.
