The Nicky fashion magazine model Emika Kanda announced on November 30 that she named her son "Hao" after The One Piece character ability "Haoshoku no Haki" (Conqueror's Haki). In the comedy adventure anime and manga franchise, Haoshoku no Haki allows characters to overpower the will of others. The 20-year-old mother gave birth to the boy on November 18 and listed the name's uniqueness as one reason for her choice.
Kanda said on her blog that she is a fan of One Piece and she believed the Haoshoku power is an appropriate name origin because only "good guys" in One Piece, such as the characters Monkey D. Luffy, Portgas D. Ace, and Shanks, possess it. The model said she would like her son to become someone who strives for his desires like Luffy. Kanda mentioned that only one in one million people in One Piece's story can use Haoshoku no Haki, and she would like her son to become such an exceptional person.
The fashion model also cited the "loved" as the Chinese meaning of "Hao" and believed the name matched well with her own somewhat unusual first name. Because of all its positive and meaningful qualities, Kanda said she laughs when people call the name strange.
In September, the Koakuma Ageha fashion magazine model Hikari Kamikawa named her son "Ace" after The One Piece character Portgas D. Ace.
