Anime Café Chain Planned in Akiba & 3 Asian Countries
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Tetsujinka Keikaku (Tetsujin), a karaoke club and internet café chain operator, is planning to open ten anime-themed cafés in four Asian countries. In partnership with the hobby product manufacturer Good Smile Company, the café chain will sell anime character figures and host voice actor appearances and other events inside the cafés.
The first café will open on October 28 in Akihabara (Akiba), a major shopping center for otaku goods. The next café will open in Taiwan in November with locations in Thailand and Singapore set to follow. Tetsujin plans to open a total of ten similar cafés in those countries within three years.
The café in Akiba will measure about 500 square meters and include a separate karaoke room. Puella Magi Madoka Magica will be the café's theme at its opening, and the menu will feature items named after the show. The anime theme will change every three months, and Tetsujin anticipates the location will earn 200,000,000 yen (about US$2,600,000) in one year.
