Quake-damaged building to open 3 months later than originally scheduled
The Anpanman Children's Museum and Mall will open in the quake-stricken city of Sendai in Miyagi Prefecture on July 22. The museum will feature a playground, restaurants, and shops featuring Anpanman goods.
The museum was originally scheduled to open on April 22, but it was postponed due to the March 11 Great Eastern Japan Earthquake (Higashi Nihon Daishinsai) disaster. According to the Nikkei financial news source, the earthquake broke glass and and damaged the building, causing the delay.
Other Anpanman museums opened in Yokohama in 2007 and in Nagoya in 2010. The Yokohama museum even features a hair salon — ironically, since Anpanman is more hairless than Peanuts' Charlie Brown.
