Rumiko Takahashi's Maison Ikkoku Bentō Lunch on Sale
posted on by Egan Loo
The Japanese convenience store chain Ministop announced on Monday that it is celebrating the 30th anniversary of both Shogakukan's Big Comic Spirits magazine and the store chain with exclusive items, including a Maison Ikkoku bentō (boxed lunch). Rumiko Takahashi launched the original Maison Ikkoku romantic comedy manga in 1980, before she created Ranma 1/2, Inuyasha, and her current RIN-NE series.
According to Ministop, its "Aijō Bentō" (Love Bentō) is modeled after the bentō that Maison Ikkoku's main female lead Kyoko Otonashi made. Ministop is selling it with 17 other tie-in items from Tuesday, November 16 to December 5. The other represented manga titles include Utsurun Desu., Bambino! Secondo, and Sasurai Afro Tanaka. There are also random prize giveaways for people who spent over 600 yen (about US$7) at the stores.
