Violet Evergarden Gets Side Story Anime in September Before January 10 Film

Kyoto Animation announced on Friday that Violet Evergarden: The Movie, its film project for the Violet Evergarden anime, will open in Japan on January 10. The studio also revealed a new key visual and teaser trailer for the film.
The above video also reveals that a new Violet Evergarden Gaiden: Eien to Jidō Shuki Ningyō (Violet Evergarden Side-Story: Eternity and the Auto Memories Doll) anime that tells "another story" will screen in theaters in Japan from September 6-19. Haruka Fujita (series director for the television series) is returning to direct the anime.
The new film is slated for a "same time period" release worldwide. Taichi Ishidate is returning to direct the film. Other returning staff members include scriptwriter Reiko Yoshida, character designer and chief animation director Akiko Takase, and composer Evan Call. The film will take place several years after the end of the war, as the world is slowly becoming more peaceful. One day, Violet Evergarden finds a certain letter.
The anime series premiered on television in Japan in January 2018, and launched on Netflix at the same time in some territories, including Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines. The anime launched on Netflix in the United States in April 2018. An Extra Episode" anime originally shipped with the television series' fourth Blu-ray Disc and DVD release on July 4, and then debuted on Netflix worldwide on October 4.
