posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Netflix began streaming the 13 episodes of Violet Evergarden "season 1" in the United States on Thursday. The series is available with Japanese (audio description and original), English, French, German, and Spanish audio. Japanese, English, Chinese (simplified and traditional), and Spanish subtitles are available.
The series premiered on television in Japan on January 10, and launched on Netflix on January 11 in some territories, including Japan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
Kyoto Animation announced the anime project based on author Kana Akatsuki and illustrator Akiko Takase's Violet Evergarden novel in May 2016, and has streamed two animated commercials from director and storyboard artist Taichi Ishidate. Takase served as character designer and animation director for the videos. Ishidate and Takase are returning for the anime itself, and Reiko Yoshida (Yowamushi Pedal, Bakuman) is in charge of series composition. Yōta Tsuruoka is the sound director and Evan Call is composing the music.
The official Twitter account for the anime confirmed on Thursday that a "completely new" work has been green-lit.
