Not too impossible actually. I remember Kojima saying that he'd rather have someone else do the remakes instead of himself.

"Kojima said he isn’t very keen on the idea of remaking his own games, since he’d rather create something new. But if he where to remake on of his games, it would be Metal Gear Solid 1."

But then again, after what Konami did to him, I'm not sure if he even owns rights to his own creation anymore...

He doesn't. Konami still holds the rights to the Metal Gear and probably Zone of the Enders franchises, the latter of which they'll probably just sit on until someone buys it from them.

Considering the last Metal Gear fan remake game supposedly received Konami's blessing, it was shut down thereafter very quietly. Knowing Konami's track record it doesn't bode well for the project.
