Were I to guess about their market cap, I'd say $300 million. Assuming their sales doubled in 2004, they'd have roughly $140 million in sales and growing.

Not a bad return on the initial $12 million investment.

About 5 years ago I didn't think they were gonna last. I'm glad I was wrong; they ain't perfect, but they've been key to revolutionizing the manga industry and market.

man i wish it was listed on the US stock exchange because then it would be easyer for me to buy some just to say I own a bit of Tokyopop. I bet I could still do it just be not as simple.

What other anime/manga companys are publicy traded anyway?

Own a bit? As a stockholder, you can do a few things normal folks can't do.

Probably one reason why they don't offer stock options here is beause alot of angry fanboys might buy stock and do a whole lotta weird shyte to them. Accurate translations might be high on that list.

Knowing fans like I do, I doubt such a large group as could afford so many shares would be able to do much more than squabble over the name of their voting bloc. And be assured, the likelihood of being able to acquire enough stock is close to nil.

Viz is, most likely, as it's been a subsidiary of fairly significant Japanese companies for a couple of years now. I'm also pretty sure Del Rey is, as it's owned by Random House. Let's face it, though, until the past three years, publishing manga was a very, very small business.

I'm pretty sure someone could, if they really wanted to--which would involve getting a good enough broker, and being willing to deal with the complexity of international markets just to basically get a vanity stock.

Most likely, it's solely because Japan is where most of Tokyopop's money is. No more, no less.
