GKids has it: "It premiered in North America at the New York International Children's Festival in March. GKids plans to release the film to more of North America this year or later."

According to their page, they have the license, they just want to use Kickstarter to make a very fancy release.

Ah I see, but GKids could distribute it themselves.

Just thought this film has enough going for it that there won't be no need for a Kickstarter.

They have the license.
The kickstarter is for the 'Ultimate' version.

Ultimate release will feature;

- Ultimate Edition box, with custom digipack to hold the DVD and Blu-Ray and any other goodies produced as part of the Kickstarter.

- A numbered art card certifying the release.

- The visual fan guide (full of art, settings & design notes) - translated into English for the first time.

- A replica of Lagos' letter from Patema Inverted (it's spoilery so we can't tell you more now Wink).

- Collector's edition of the BD/DVD

Stretch goals will probably add more to the release as well.

Are they planning to release it with a dub? I assume if they wait a little while, Gkids'll dub it.

GKIDS is indeed dubbing it, and NYAV is the studio producing it.

And what a good job it looks like they are going to do. I would prefer a Kickstarter for an edition like this seeming as its very uncommon that we get 'fancy' releases over hear.

I have set a reminder on my work PC to make sure I back the Kickstarter as soon as it becomes available Very Happy

I just wish this fancy release also applies to the GKids release, though I can't see GKids offering something comparable to what Anime Limited is doing by essentially including a ton of JPN content we usually don't see in the West.

Already have the Japanese edition. Not sure if will double-dip.

But a special edition like that is mighty tempting...

That is if the option is even available as my country wasn't listed...

I am a little bit mad. Germany gets ignored so much by a lot of anime companies, it's not funny anymore.
They are planning a really nice box but unfortunately, I will not be able to support it. It's a shame really as Yasuhiro Yoshiura is one of my favorite directors.

It's hardly like Germany's being ignored; the reason it isn't included is because someone already has the rights to the film. Anime Limited can't make it an international release without stepping on the toes of fellow distribution companies, which would almost certainly come back to bite them in future situations (eg trying to acquire sublicenses, dubs etc from fellow companies), not to mention the trouble they'd get in with Japan. There would be a high risk of people never working with them again or even being sued, depending on the circumstances.

If you handle the lack of German dub/sub, then it's worth a shot to contact them directly. You never know...

Don't forget that the UK is a far smaller country than America, etc, and one with an anime buying population largely adverse to buying Blu-rays. I have no idea how successful previous releases have been for Anime Limited (eg I think Bebop and the upcoming Gurren Lagann releases are doing well), but I have a feeling there have been a few releases that have failed to generate the required numbers anticipated (Perfect Blue and possibly Durarara, due to disk issues). If this is how they test the waters to evaluate demand for special editions, then fair enough. Better than sinking money into an unpopular product.
