Something tells me that excuse will not work in a court. IIRC people have tried to use similar reasons for commiting crimes here in the US. However, it seems to me like the individual might suffer from some form of mental illness.

This is just another example of an idiot making excuses for his actions. He chose to kill his mother.

Some of all who have seen EVA might feel this one might be different and very plausible. Especially if this young lad was suffering from some form of mental illness. I believe there is a similar type of case being heard in the US involving the Matrix movies, is there not?

This just screams "Twinkie Defense" (or maybe that's just me).
I've seen Eva and while it did make me feel depressed, it didn't make me want to bludgeon my parents to death with a baseball bat.

Why can't people tell right from wrong?
While I agree with the ruin/rebirth theory and humanity is a parasite to the planet theory, it's wrong to kill, period. It's as simple as that. He must be mentally ill.

To take a cue from Gunnm
No matter how artificial we are, no matter how hopeless we are, no matter how godforsaken this land is, no matter how hellish our lives are, live, for heaven's sake live

No argument there with me. The question is what was the catalyst that caused this idea to form in his head that he was " doing the planet a favour" and begin with his mother? Definately an insanity plea. I'd be interested to know the final judgment of this case.

Hm. I don't believe videogame, TV shows or anything like that can really MAKE a person kill somebody. With or without Eva, he would've killed his mom most likely anyways. Meh. Just an excuse like "So and so made me do it."

I thought this kind of stuff only happened to vidoe games and movies. Eva did make me a bit depressed near the end, but I wouldn't go on a murdering spree because of it. This guy had to have something wrong with him before hand. Blaming an anime, or any other kind of entertainment on your behavior is wrong and irresponsible. I hope this case gets thrown out.

well yeah, video games, tv shows, anime, media all combine with real life problems and environment (which by themselves cause the most damage) so fix their enviro first.

Indeed. And he was 22, old enough to make and educated decision.

There must have been some seriously wrong with that kid in the first place. I get mad at my folks, but I don't want to kill them. EVA is kind of messed up, but I wouldn't take something like seriously.
That scares me as an artist because someone might take your work too literially.

Hmm, a lot of people seem to be thinking that the Eva statements are a part of the kids deffence. They aren't; the prosecution brought up the fact that he was influenced by Eva.
