Oh boy, here we go Rolling Eyes

This isn't going to help Russia while they send troops to the Crimean region of Ukraine and turn it into a international crisis.

Welp, prepare for the shitstorm. I do wonder what it was he uploaded though. Let's hope it was actually pornography and not weird borderline stuff that we've all seen in anime. It wouldn't make me happy to know that something I've seen would be considered child pornography, even if it was only in Russia.

The defendant, a male Volgograd resident, was accused of uploading 6 volumes of anime onto a social networking site and making them available for download from December 5, 2010 to July 22, 2013. The anime in question included minors ages 14 through 18 in sexual situations.

.. which describes almost every fanservice anime ever.

And if I recall the site was vkontakte which many upload anime clips and vidoes too (it's the Russian Facebook). Almost certainly it wouldn't have been actual hentai given how long it stayed up.

I actually doubt it was outright hentai. I can only think of a few hentai series that are that long and none of the ones I think of involve characters that look that young. It was likely some really borderline normal show.

Glad it's not my country. I'd be devastated if I had to be cautious with normal shows.

Already saw this on Yaraon,

But those poor, poor 14-18~ year old fictional anime girls, I'm glad that Russia is finally taking action against those who are trying to hurt them. Russia is once again showing that they are the bastion of Freedom and progress.

Precisely, this case, on top of Russia's recent military movements, is very likely spark off a major incident.

The most ironic thing in my opinion, is that Russia has a huge REAL child porn market that has been mentioned in the news quite a few times in the past 5 years alone.

With six volumes I have severe doubts it was hentai.

Would be irony if it was 'Hentai Prince and the Stony Cat'...

There seems to be an eerily similar case going on in Ireland currently; (SundayWorld, Ireland, 20/2/14, Man sentenced for cartoon porn)
Quote:
Simon Fallon (38) from Dundalk, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing 1,612 hentai images and 18 stories of child porn at his home and at his former work at Shelbourne Road, Ballsbridge, Dublin on October 6 and 7, 2010. He has no previous convictions.

Detective Garda Geraldine Coulter of the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation accepted that it was difficult to place an age on the hentai images.

Place an age indeed... But, still, this is bullshit. It's just drawn images, there are no real life victims here...

Hey, Russia... you realize you have a much bigger REAL child porn problem, right?

Unfortunately they can't distinguish between between real and fictional, given how they've labeled Ikki-tousen and GTO as child porn. But hey, it's much easier to catch guys fapping to animated highschool girl's tits than real life criminals all so you can say you're doing something. Rolling Eyes

That's also a good point. 6 volumes worth of the anime in question basically confirms it's not hentai. (Not to mention the fact that Vkontake wouldn't have allowed it up for 3 years with their no-porn policy)

Edit: This other article confirms it was 13 episodes on Vk

Yep this was brought up by CNN in 2011. They're arresting a person who is watching anime that is not child porn yet the real child pornography in Russia is getting away. I think this arrest is probably a smoke screen (and probably using this to cover-up any child pornography problem Russia is having).

This ANN article needs a slight correction: the man has been sentenced in Vologda, not Volgograd (different cities). All Russian news bits about this person mention Vologda (Вологда), not Volgograd (Волгоград).

ITAR TASS news agency: http://itar-tass.com/spb-news/1016878
Lenta.ru: http://lenta.ru/news/2014/03/03/toons/
Komsomolskaya Pravda newspaper: http://www.kp.ru/online/news/1675851/

So, translation mistake at The Voice of Russia Japanese offices, I guess.[/url]

It's a lot easier and safer for them to go after some anime fan than it is to go up against the Russian mafia after all.

^The Russian Mafia can pay bribe money and has connections into the Russian government. Your average anime fan has none of these things.

Exactly, I think I recalled big allegation of corruption at the highest part of the Russian govt, I mean it was found out that Ukraine's ex-president Viktor Yanukovych has a luxurious home when he ruled Ukraine. I mean look at this:

Great example of how to abuse the taxpayer money, I don't know how deep the corruption in the Russian government, it wouldn't surprised me.
