Well, good to see that it may have a chance to be properly released here on DVD or BluRay.

I really do hope Mediablasters can get their shit together. I dont wanna see another US anime company go down, I would love to keep supporting them if they can just get back on their feet.

I don't know.. Viz doesn't really handle anime releases that well, other than Naruto or Bleach. Even Naruto and Bleach still takes forever to come.

But I'd rather have MB release the license than hold on to it for fans sake and for MB's own sake

I find it almost impossible to reconcile the fact that Viz (who as it is only releases the most profitable of shows) is interested in Bakuman with the fact that Media Blasters is blaming poor sales for their not releasing it.

While Im usually weary of them when they license something, Bakuman to me seems like something more suited to Sentai. And since it already has a dub cast, they wouldnt have to make Steven Foster do one (not a fan of his dubs). So maybe Sentai getting it actually wouldnt be that bad an idea

Who the bleep cares about Bakuman, when there is finally some chance that we may get Mr. Despair. Ill take a 50/50 chance to get the best comedy along side of Bake/Nisemonogatari over 100 chance for Bakuman.

I wouldn't mind another company taking a crack at the title. I can't say that I enjoyed the title for 2 reasons. The first is the extremely lackluster, stilted dub that leaves in an undesirable amount of Japanese words. Words like "mangaka" are already in the subs for the Japanese track. So when I want to watch in Japanese, the option is there, but I'd like to buy a release that also has the option to watch in English, not a half-baked pidgin Japanese as the dub felt to me.

Second reason, one that is less subjective, is that the plot was horribly thin and almost painful. Considering that their previous work was Death Note, possibly the most complex "Shounen" work ever to go mainstream, I find the simplistic and contrived plot to be almost offensive. I originally thought, tried to convince myself really, that the horrid quality of the show was the creators making what the hipsters today call an "ironic" statement against the low standards that a work must have to be featured in Shounen Jump, and that maybe they'd touch on how they had to work to make Death Note conform to those low standards while making it exceed them simultaneously, but that was not the case, as I have been told repeatedly on the internet.

Even if the show is being "ironic" and being purposefully crappy to make a point about the nature of most Shounen Jump works, it has gone too far as the show was too crappy for me to stomach and it gave no real indication of such an "ironic" goal from the git-go. Also if this is the case, that Bakuman is supposed to be an "ironic" statement then someone with clout needs to set the Internet straight Wink

With a better dub I'd be able to see more of the work, which I'd try to do as there's still a glimmer of hope that the guys who made Death Note didn't fall from grace and that Bakuman's low quality has a higher purpose (and maybe even gets better further in).

Regardless, if Viz gets it then this work will at least be in the hands of the company that brought out the masterpiece of its creators, what I consider to be one of the best adaptations of Sherlock Holmes(apologies Benedict/Lucy/Downey), Death Note.

...and even the most wooden, lackluster, unnatural-sounding Bang/Zoom dub that Viz could curse this work with would still be vastly superior to what it currently has.

Well in terms of finishing things they've gotten better. Outside of Monster (still holding out and pestering them on twitter). But the manga is one of their best sellers so they'll be happy. I do think the manga is way better for this type of story. And hopefully they'll give it a new dub, from what I've seen it's pretty bad.

Terrible dub as it was anyway, hopefully if it were to go to Viz Media they would change the cast. It should've gone to Viz Media anyway, as they hold jurisdiction over the manga, it just makes sense that they too are taking care of the anime. This is wonderful news in my book.

I never seen this anime; but when a company licenses and anime and hold on to it for like ever and release a couple of episodes and then they decide to give the middle finger to the fans by not releasing the rest of the season or the series... well to me that's total bullshit. Maybe is just the company seems to be still struggling with money, so I get the feeling media blasters just does not want to take a chance.

Now on some of those comments on facebook I saw; people were saying they should go fudge themselves and go under. Well to me that's just being immature and should grow up, everybody struggles with money in life and cannot afford taking risks.

I agree with ikillchicken. Bakuman going to Viz would not solve anything, especially since it has already been tested in the DVD market by Media Blasters and failed.

edited to add: I say this because of Viz's terrible track record of dropping titles right in the middle. i.e. Monster, Hikaru no Go, etc. With Bakuman, they have no incentive to release it on physical media.

I'm not really sure why a small company like Mediablasters grabbed a huge series like Bakuman in the first place it was never going to be a big seller.

Thanks for the official confirmation ANN, here's hoping Viz Media will be license rescuing the Bakuman anime from Media Blasters.

Viz Media Europe already have the license for the show here and are planning on releasing it sub only via KazéUK.
