Hmm. The whole thing seems pretty dry, though Kawajiri certainly isn't helping things out with most of his answers. I wish some of the questions could have been a bit more detailed, but from the looks of it the response we'd get back would probably be the same.

For Unico 2, Kawajiri is credited on ANN with "storyboard", but that's not accurate. He's actually credited with "画面構成" (screen composition), which is basically "layout" as Kawajiri said.

Maybe he just thought they''re simply his best work to date?

I thought the Q & A on Sunday that Kawajiri did along with Yutaka Minowa was fairly interesting. He talked about how Wicked City was originally designed as a 30 minute short, and his work as a key animator on Stink Bomb (he did the tunnel scene), and one person seemed to be under the impression that he was responsible for Cardcaptor Sakura... turns out Kawajiri actually did some key animation for it. He's right though. Those are his best works. At least, in the top 5.

He borrows a lot from old exploitation and horror films. So you can't get away from all the gore and rape that's in all his stuff, because that's a large part of who he is.

Ninja Scroll was my gateway into Anime and all I can say is that Kawajiri is one of the very few people in the anime industry that is original and takes risks and is nothing short of amazing.

I cannot wait until the NA release of Ninja Scroll on Blu-Ray and I can only hope that there will be a sequel to Ninja Scroll and Kawajiri is attached to the project.

He said that he wants to, and he has a couple short sample clips he's shopping around. It looks like now the issue is just securing the funds to make it happen.
