Pokémon: Black and White #5

Is Pokemon Adventures on hiatus in Japan since Hidenori Kusaka and Satoshi Yamamoto are busy with Black and White? I still can't find when the Black and White volumes were released in Japan.

They could always go back and release the hundreds of chapters they skipped.

One Piece is number 2! Sweet. Sadly I think that's because Sailor Moon and Bleach aren't on there. But that is also the volume with the time jump. =)

Hopefully it's in the top 10 again next week.

Volume 40 is coming out soon. They're just preoccupied with Platinum right now, and they still have to release HGSS after Platinum before they get to Black and White. Then there's the Black and White 2 manga that's probably going to be starting in three months.

Yay for One Piece, and Chi's Sweet Home, both of these series are automatic pre-orders for me.

Wait, what's the deal with the Black and White series? Is it actually written by another author or is it a spinoff with no relation to the previous Pokemon Adventures arcs? I'm a bit confused there.

*high five* Chi's is such a heartfelt, sweet series (no pun intended). Love it.

You can blame Viz for that confusion.

There's four manga in Japan currently

"Pocket Monsters Special" by Kusaka Hidenori
"Pocket Monsters Black & White" by Anakubo Kousaku
"Pocket Monsters ReBURST" by Kusude Jin
"Pokemon + Nobunaga's Ambition" by Nanatsumu Launch

The only one being published in the US is Pocket Monsters Special, however Viz is skipping chapters and releasing it as they feel they need to to maximize profit, or whatever. That's why you have so many series here broken up into seperate series, when it's all one concurrent sieres in Japan. It's about 500 chapters currently in Japan, and I guess Viz felt that it's a bit too long for the little kids, so they cut out a couple hundred here and there, rebrand some stuff as it's own thing, and so forth.

In Japan, they're currently on volume 39. Volume 40 will come out in May and continue the Platinum arc. However, the chapters are much further ahead in the magazines they are published in, they are just not collected into tankobon form yet.

So no, it's not a spin off, nor is it by a different writer, it's part of Special, it's just Viz is being very silly. It doesn't help Viz is breaking down the volumes into 'half volumes' for whatever reason (I guess to be chapter book sizes so they're cheaper for kids to buy or they think kids can't handle a normal sized manga volume and it's too much to read)

It actually isn't a spinoff; all the same manga franchise. What we see here in NA as "Pokemon Black & White", the manga, is in reality still "Pocket Monsters Special" or "Pokemon Adventures" (just the continuation of the manga through the Black & White video game storyline). It helps to think of it as "Pokemon Adventures: Black & White", or i.e. I have all of my volumes organized by the franchise title, "Pokemon Adventures", not just by particular titles.

What we see here are translated compilations of the Japanese chapters that're published in the Japanese magazine Coro Coro (which'd be why they're so skinny.) Fun fact: not even Japan publishes these, only the U.S. and France (in thicker tankoban) do.

As far as I know, HGSS is the one on hiatus. DPPt is gonna end soon, however.

Very happy to see OP up there as #2, it needs the popularity here in the states. If this can keep up, funi may even be motivated to catch up even faster!

I'm going to begin collecting the manga here, since I find it almost impossible to get all 60 of the other volumes (I have a random on but thats it) here's hoping funi can at least finish the first half.

and the list reminds me, I need to catch up on soul eater! I missed two volumes recently cause I didn't have the cash, I gotta hurry before it gets to be too many!

Wow! I wonder how Viz was allowed to do this.
