What they meant to say: we got a lot of people angry again, and decided to laugh it off like we usually do when we were actually being quite serious. -3- I'm a huge advocate for preventing mistreatment of animals as an owner of multiple dogs myself, but PETA has historically gone about it the wrong way. This was just one more instance of it.

They certainly put a lot of effort into programming a game and making all those graphics and publicity into something that was ultimately a joke.

Personally, I think if they were pointing fingers at things like Dog Wars, they would have done better making a campaign directed right at it, rather than trying to tarnish one of video game's most beloved franchises and later taking the coward's way out by saying they were joking the whole time.

Next up, PETA hires Triumph the Insult Comic Dog to say "I joke! I joke! I keed! I keed!" Oh wait, that's abuse of a puppet dog, forcing it to perform...^__^

PETA's game was meant to be tongue-in-cheek, a fun way to call attention to a serious issue, that raccoon dogs are skinned alive for their fur. We wish real-life tanukis could fly or swat enemies away with their tails and escape from those who profit from their skins. You can help them by never buying real fur."

Ummm... doesn't PETA know that Tanukis aren’t real? They are mythical magical animals, you know kind of like unicorns are in the west. Maybe they should make sure the animal they are trying to protect from being skinned is real? Laughing

Ummm... You do know that Tanukis are real, right? They have a lot of mythical abilities and legends about them, but tanukis are in fact actual animals that are indigenous to Japan. In fact, here's a picture of one, straight from Nintendo Life:

Like Apollo-Kun, I am a advocate for preventing any and all mistreatment of animals, not just because I have several dogs of course. However, just because I believe in fair treatment, doesn't mean using tactics PETA is using is right and in fact, they are doing this entirely in the wrong way.

Also, speaking from a person who really enjoys comedy, the whole "jokes on you, we were just messing around" eventually loses it's charm and actually is not longer comedic at a certain point. The charm quickly vanishes and becomes more annoying than anything else.

Much like explaining a joke, the very second you have to explain a joke, it's no longer comedic and just becomes another string of words.

I have to wonder though, doesn't PETA know that Tanuki's aren't actually real and just entirely made up? Raccoons are real, but Tanuki's exist only in fantasy land.

Fighting for what you believe in is all good and whatnot, but if something doesn't physically exist, what are you fighting for?

EDIT: SailorS, I do realize raccoon dogs exist, but mythical ones have powers and what obviously don't. I never once said raccoon dogs didn't exist.

I hope those tanukis come equipped with huge ****, because someone needs a good slap in the face.

I'm familiar with PETA but never really followed their earlier protests. Now all I hear and see of them is that they are a bunch of sexed up, ambulance chasing nut jobs. With all of the animal cruelty out there they concentrate on BS no wonder they can't be taken seriously. Well, apparently somebody does if they didn't they would have gone out of business a long time ago. And not to sound sexists but are there any guys in their group?

I actually found about this story on YT from Apple Daily/Next Media. They had a funny take on it.

Look at the post above you. Tanuki are very much real animals. They can't turn into statues and such, but they are actual animals. I mean, there's even a picture of one in the friggin post! Please do a quick google search next time before saying something isn't real.

What makes me the most angry about this situation is that a.)The very second the there might be a issue, they pulled back and said the entire ordeal was a joke. Now if your kid and doing this, I'll give them some lenience, but if your a adult and you did something really offensive and seemed serious about it, then any lenience goes out the window.

But what also made me angry is that they turned Mario, a very clean long standing series into something utterly polar opposite than what the series is about. Essentially they made something that is not even related to this this issue and turned into something extreme.

I've been playing Mario games for the last seventeen years and I'll admit, it's not the game for everyone, but compared to other action video games these days, it's hardly as violent.

I stand corrected, I didn't realize that the stories were based off a real animal (boy is my face red). Embarassed

Thanks for setting me straight on the matter, and my apologies to PETA.

Raccoon Dogs are real! One came into my house and became mai waifu (as they say in Japan) just yesterday. We had a "wild" make out session.
