That's an amazing feat, and one that sure as heck deserves this award
Congrats, Kato-san! ^^

I'm still wrapping my head around the idea that one person has been the voice of one character for 42 years.
That's pretty awesome.

While not nearly as strenuous (or long), the cast of Lupin III has been doing their characters for quite awhile too. Kiyoshi Kobayashi, the voice actor who plays Jigen, started with the first TV series in 1971 and is still scheduled to play him in the new special in December. The VA for Zenigata has also been playing the part up until this new special.
Never the less, for Midori Kato to still be doing Sazae-san is pretty crazy. It's an ongoing TV series, unlike Lupin. That is her -life-. Kudos for her being able to stick around this whole time.

Yeah. I guess I should have specified "non-stop" in my original post.
It's pretty amazing.

The American cultural equivalent of Sazae-san is The Simpsons.

It's hard to find a good comparison. In a way an even closer comparison would be the For Better or For Worse animated series, but I certainly never watched it and I don't know anyone who has. The Simpsons is probably the only show with the same level of popularity as Sazae-san.

Thematically, perhaps something like Blondie or The Family Circus is a good comparison.
The last time I checked, Sazae's parents and her son have also had the same actors all 42 years.

This show may actually outlive all of us if it has it's way!

Not surprising given Sazae-san's...interesting mandations by its creator.

I wish all creators were that way.
